Hilton Beach is a small, vibrant village on the Northeast shore of St. Joseph Island. A popular tourist destination, the Hilton Beach Marina is one of the largest in the North Channel and one of the most scenic on the Great Lakes. Hundreds of boaters and tourists visit this area every summer.

In addition to beaches and outdoor activities, cultural events throughout the year attract numerous visitors. The district's best artists show their work at Arts at the Dock. The Classic Car Show is fun and interesting for the whole family with over 75 vehicles spanning the past century. The Old Town Hall Concert Series attracts music lovers, and the Hilton Beach Community Night features food, games and a parade through the village.

In my teens in the dead of winter I would venture out on my own to the trestle and lay on the frozen river. Bundled up as best I could, I would spend hours walking along the river and lying silently on the frozen ice, watching the snowfall, waiting for rabbits or a deer to appear. They appeared almost every time.
