At first I was terrified of Kasakanta Lake because it had leeches so I never wanted to go swimming. I was too scared to go in. But as the years progressed – I realized that over time the water level was decreasing. Now, there are no leeches.
I’m not sure what caused that to happen, but it peaked my attention to the issue of conservation because leeches are important to the lake’s ecosystem. I realized the important role everything plays in the ecosystems as well as our duty to protect it.
