I’m from Toledo, Ohio and I’m with Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission. Back in the summer of 2012, I remember I had just moved to Toledo, Ohio, and we were planning to go get dinner with me and some of my friends. We had decided to go to a location on Maumee Bay known as the Docks. It’s a bunch of restaurants right on the river and I had heard it was pretty cool and I was excited to go eat there and experience a meal on the water. When me and my friends went for dinner and ate outside, it was a really nice summer evening, and while we were sitting out there, I had the opportunity to appreciate the fact that we were right on the water. I had a moment where I felt like I was at the beach or near an ocean, and I thought about this really awesome experience and this really beautiful body of water is right here in our background. It would be so awesome if the community had more of an opportunity to appreciate it and experience it. In that moment I was really taken aback by how cool Lake Erie is and how it would be so awesome to experience it a little bit more than we do now.
This past summer I went kayaking for the first time, I had never done it before, and it was really fun. It was more tiring that I thought it would be, but it was really cool just to be in the water, feel the water, spend some time with friends, see the wildlife, and appreciate water up close and personal. I would love to have more opportunities to do fun stuff like that. My first kayaking trip was really fun.
My Watermark is Maumee Bay on Lake Erie in Ohio.
