"Ew what is that?!"- would often be exclaimed when my friends and I visited the shores of Woodbine Beach. Having grown up in the urban jungle of Toronto, it's hardly the case that young adults interact with nature- and this was no exception to the beach day that my friends and I had planned weeks ahead. Initially I was afraid to swim in the lake, after all, I had heard all of the horror stories regarding diseased and polluted bodies of water. We would tiptoe into the waves cautiously, and occasionally screamed at the seaweed that drifted past our feet. My friend would joke about there being micro bacteria and nefarious diseases like e.coli present in the clandestine water. Nevertheless, we had a good time on the beach.
