Mitchell's Bay, ON

When I was young at the bay, I remember walking to the edge of the water with my aunt. We would stand under the big tree beside the water or sit along the edge and watch the fish. Often times, the fish were small, probably minnows. I remember the times we’d walk down to the bay from our cottage at night. The sky had been beautiful, especially when it reflected off the water, splashes of red, orange and yellow everywhere.

When I was young at the bay, I heard the cries of seabirds in the sky, diving into the clear water to catch fish below. I was reminded of the time when my brother and I found a huge fish, swimming close to shore, and we had waded in to try and catch it. We didn’t have nets or fishing rods, so I tried to snatch it out of the water with my hands. It got away, but we were very excited about it at the time.

When I was young at the bay, it made me happy to see my family all together, talking and laughing at the picnic bench. We would often order food from the small restaurant in town and take it to the bench by the beach. I enjoyed the food, but mostly just being there with my family made me happy.

At the bay, I always went on trails with my family. My aunt, mom, brothers and I always went on a certain trail in the small community of Mitchell’s Bay. It is a fairly short trail, but we’ve created many memories along the way. I always saw a lot of wildlife down there, which absolutely fascinated me. The animals that we had seen were beavers, rabbits, snakes and many species of birds!
