St. Lawrence River, ON

Well I wasn’t allowed to have a bike as a kid, my parents thought it was too dangerous and I would be careless. So I actually didn’t start biking until I was an adult and then I just did the little half mile trips to town. Then in 2012 I discovered the Waterfront Trail, the Great Adventure, I signed up and I had a wonderful time Niagara on the Lake to the Quebec border.

One of my favourite sections remains in Stormont County, S, D and G. Going through the St. Lawrence Parks Commission area, the bird sanctuary and the Long Sault Parkway which is a series of islands created when they flooded the St. Lawrence to do the power damn and the St. Lawrence Seaway.

I love it because if you get a little side tracked and get off the main trail you can get on old Highway 2 and suddenly you realize, this road is just going right off, down into the river and it disappears under the water. We have so many stories about the lost villages and the creation of the Seaway, the creation of the power damn. It’s just a lot of heritage, a lot of good memories and a lot of fun for cycling.
