Dickie Lake, ON

When I was young at the lake, I remember the long drive to get there along with the excitement that would rush through my head when the GPS finally said two more minutes. I remember arriving at the cottage and feeling the biggest weight off my shoulders. Next, we would all be running to the water, racing to be the first one in.

When I was young at the lake, I remember waking up the next morning to the smell of the fresh morning dew that had fallen the night before. From my room, I could hear the waves splashing the rocks. I used to spend hours in the water, until my fingers looked like prunes, whether it was paddle boarding, or kayaking or just swimming.

When I was young at the lake, I can remember the feeling of just being care free as though nothing else mattered. I would play exploding kittens for hours, laughing so hard with some of my best friends. Another thing we did was play Super Mario to try to beat all the levels and find all the shortcuts to win the game. I remember how it was ust like when we were in the lake, and we would try to swim to the island and avoid all the animals in the water.

At the lake, I will always remember on my last day that I would blast music as loud as possible to forget my departure. I would think that I have to actually go home and live a normal life again. I will always miss my early morning swims. Even if it was hard to get out to the lake, it was nice just having a moment to myself, hearing the baby birds waiting for their food.
