Lake Erie has great swimming, great sunsets and warm water. I did my early sailing there. I do all my sailing on Lake Ontario now, often Hamilton Bay.
My wife and I will go to 1,000 Islands for a month. It takes a lot of planning to live on the boat for a month. We anchor all the time and you really feel free. It makes you mindful and brings you back to your roots. Being on a boat changes how you look at things. Simple pleasures like enjoying the music and the food, meeting people. You also think about the finite resources on the boat: the propane, the water, the holding tank. That awareness spills over to make you more conscious and frugal with resources after as well.
