Every year, my grandmother, mother, brother, and I take the ferry to Centre Island so we could watch the Dragon Boat Race Festival. I’ve always been excited whenever we manage to get a seat nearest to the bow, for being able to see Lake Ontario and have the wind go through my hair created a sense of adventure. I can still hear the captain’s welcoming speech, the safety procedures outlined by the crew, and sometimes even the voices of worried passengers; soft as the breeze that heralds the storm. Being born and raised in such an urban city - Toronto, namely, it has always been interesting to experience nature so closely and have a connection with it.
