I have spent countless days and nights falling in love with Mazinaw Lake but what makes this lake so special to me was being able to introduce it to my nieces. At just 5 and 10 years old, there is nothing quite as magical as staring out at that massive body of water with the rippling reflections of Mazinaw Rock. It was like I was watching them fall in love. We spent hours swimming and finding beautiful rocks at the water's edge. We would take turns in the kayak, coming back each time with new stories of which pictographs we had seen.
Being able to share my connection to the lake and watching them form their own has been one of the most gratifying feelings. I know they will share this lake with others one day, and through these connections, our love for Lake Mazinaw will live on forever.
