Point Gratiot is named for the Chief Engineer in the War of 1812. There are a number of towns and historical landmarks in the Great Lakes area bearing Gratiot's name. There are two beaches here, one to the east of the point and one to the west. Point Gratiot park is a perfect place to go and enjoy the sunshine. Visitors can also golf, swim, fish, and paddle. There are a number of hotels to stay at near the beach, as well as a campground where visitors can pitch a tent or park their RV. There is an active lighthouse here, keeping watch over Lake Erie. It is open to visitors most days of the week.
