The main attraction at Silver Lake is the wide, crescent, sandy beach. It the perfect getaway on a hot summer day, and is centrally located within the park. There is a lovely, shaded picnic area close by, offering a quiet, cooler place to hang out after a swim. If you venture over to the east end of the park, a large marsh can be traversed by boardwalk. This area attracts a variety of wildlife, including loons, great blue herons, coyotes, turtles, frogs, and lizards. The trail that cuts through the marsh transitions from a wetland habitat to an upland forest. Hike all the way through to see how the composition of plants and animal changes in these different environments. In addition to swimming, Silver Lake is perfect for canoeing and fishing. It is 9km long, meaning you can spend a the whole day exploring the shorelines and hidden places along the lake.
