Big Bay State Park

Beach

Located on the southern end of Big Bay and a short drive from the Madeline Island Ferry Terminal , this state park offers over a mile of beach, hiking trails, boardwalk and a campground.

The park’s great amenities as well as amazing views of Lake Superior and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula make this a park worth visiting. Although there is no boat launch at this park, many users carry canoes and kayaks down to the beach and launch from there. The wind caves along the island's cliffs are a popular area to explore via boat and are located just around the bend from the swimming beach. Additionally, many fishing opportunities exist in Lake Superior and the park’s lagoons.

The Wisconsin DNR administers Big Bay State park. As such, a vehicle admission sticker or a day use pass are required for both day visitors and those hoping to camp. While leashed pets are allowed in the park and campground, no animals are allowed on the beach. The park is open from 6am to 11pm daily.

Please observe all posted regulations during your visit. Prior to enjoying your day at the beach or on the water, please check the local weather forecast and be attentive to changing conditions. Questions can be directed to the park’s office at 715-747-6425.
