The city of Bayfield along Wisconsin’s Lake Superior shoreline is known as the gateway to the Apostle Islands. The city’s small town charm and gorgeous setting along the lake make it feel akin to small coastal towns in New England.

One of the things that adds to the charm of Bayfield is its great lakefront parks and beaches. All of Bayfields lakefront parks and beaches are in close proximity to downtown and are easily visited the same day.

The Washington Ave beach is a small, sandy beach that is conveniently located adjacent to the Apostle Island ferry dock. Parking and public restrooms are available near the beach. This is a perfect place to relax a bit while waiting for your ferry ride or to let your kids play around in the water and sand while visiting Bayfield for the day.

No dogs are allowed on the town beach and the beach is closed between midnight and 5 am. Bayfield has a full range of dining, camping and lodging options to consider if you are making a full day or night of your visit.

Please observe all posted regulations during your visit. Prior to enjoying your day at the beach or on the water, please check the local weather forecast and be attentive to changing conditions. Questions can be directed to the town of Bayfield at 715-779-5712.
