The city of Bayfield along Wisconsin’s Lake Superior shoreline is known as the gateway to the Apostle islands. The city’s small town charm and gorgeous setting along the lake make it feel akin to small coastal towns in New England.

One of the things that adds to the charm of Bayfield is its great lakefront parks and beaches. All of Bayfields lakefront parks and beaches are in close proximity to downtown and are easily visited the same day.

Halvor Reiten Park, also known as Broad Street Beach is the official town beach. Beautiful views of the Apostle Islands and the soft sand make this an ideal beach for a swim late summer. The relatively shallow waters off the beach also make for warmer swimming conditions and a great place for those looking to wade into the lake. No restrooms or other amenities are available at the beach, but are close by at the town’s boat launch.

While visiting the beach also be sure to check out the Brownstone Trail. The trail, a short walking path, is a great place to enjoy some of the local flora and fauna that Northern Wisconsin has to offer.

No dogs are allowed on the town beach, which is closed between midnight and 5 am. Bayfield has a full range of dining, camping and lodging options to consider if you are making a full day or night of your visit.

Please observe all posted regulations during your visit. Prior to enjoying your day at the beach or on the water, please check the local weather forecast and be attentive to changing conditions. Questions can be directed to the town of Bayfield at 715-779-5712.
