Chippewa Park Sandy Beach

Beach

Chippewa Park has been a favourite with city residents and visitors since 1921. It is a great destination for family fun, scenic beauty and relaxation – right on the shore of Lake Superior with an amazing view of the Sleeping Giant.

Chippewa Park is fortunate to have two swimming areas on the Shore of Lake Superior. The Sandy Beach swimming area is located east of the main part of the park. This popular destination has grown in attendance over recent years as more and more public members discover it. Its Lake Superior wave action keeps the beach open through much of the swimming season.

Park features:
Amusement rides (seasonally)
Pavillion
Concession
Picnic field reservations
Playdays
Camping and swimming

Both of Chippewa Park beaches are permanently posted with swimming advisory signs letting the public know of the likelihood that the water has elevated levels of E. coli, based on five years of previous water quality tests. The new signs will help the public make decisions about the risk of harm to their health due to E. coli at any time they are considering a swim.
