For a great place to get away from it all, visit the Thorne Swift Nature Preserve, a 30-acre wildlife sanctuary that boasts a small but pristine public beach along sparkling Lake Michigan waters. Located just 3.5 miles north of Harbor Springs, between Lower Shore Drive and the lake, this park offers many amenities including 1.5 miles of trails (which feature beautiful stands of birch trees and glimpses of native wildflowers), a dune-observation platform (great for birdwatching and for taking in glorious sunsets), a pond-observation platform, a gazebo, and an amphitheater. From Memorial Day to Labour Day, visit the Elizabeth Kennedy Nature Center to learn all about the fascinating flora and fauna found in the preserve. Restrooms and parking also available. Water is quality is tested 3 times per week.
