Bleasdell Boulder Conservation Area

Park

Bleasdell Boulder, also known as Glen Miller Rock or the “Big Rock”, is one of the largest known glacial erratics on the continent. A glacial erratic is a large rock that was transported during the movement of glacial ice sheets. This one in particular stands over two stories tall and is an estimated 2.3 billion years old! Bleasdell Boulder was named after reverend William Bleasdell, who brought the large rock to the public’s attention in the 1800s. The conservation area is a popular destination for hiking, birding, and fishing, with many visitors returning to the “Big Rock” year, after year. The trails are well-maintained, and the region is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including beavers, hares, deer, and waterfowl. Bleasdell Boulder Conservation Area is also rumoured to hold several geocaches… so stop by the next time you have an urge to hunt for treasure!
