Devil’s Punch Bowl Conservation Area contains an impressive 100 m wide “punch bowl” that exposes 40 million year-old geological formations. This massive hole was created by melt-water during the last ice age retreat. Layers of stratified rock have been carved out and now expose their beautiful multicoloured striations. The conservation area is also home to two distinct waterfalls: Upper Punch Bowl and Lower Punch Bowl Falls. Upper Punch Bowl Falls is a beautiful 33.8 m high ribbon waterfall, reminiscent of somewhere much more tropical than Ontario. Lower Punch Bowl Falls is a 5.5 classical waterfall — like a mini Niagara Falls. A walk along the surrounding trail will take you to lookout points that offer unmatched views of the surrounding region, including the gorge that appears to flow endlessly into the distance. The trail will also take you to Battlefield Park, the site of the Battle of Stoney Creek in the War of 1812. The Devil’s Punch Bowl Conservation Area is also home to the Gage Homestead Museum that includes a tower with stunning views of the CN Tower and Lake Ontario below.
