Findlay Creek Boardwalk is a gorgeous conservation area located just south of the Findlay Creek community in Ontario. The area spans 800 acres of complex, rare wetland habitat. These wetlands are composed of a non-acidic peat and are mineral rich and fed by cold groundwater. The area is also home to a cedar swamp and has been designated as an Area of Natural and Scientific Interest. A short 500 m path will bring you to a platform with a spectacular view of the wetland habitat (called “calcareous fen”) and the small streams that wind their way through the area. Findlay Creek Boardwalk is a popular walking destination. While on a stroll, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife: the region is home to over 500 plant species, 90 resident bird species, and 40 migratory bird species. Among these are the endangered Short-Eared Owl and Red-Shouldered Hawk. The park also hosts a carnivorous plant — the insect-eating Pitcher Plant!
