Point Pelee National Park of Canada

Park

At the southernmost point of canada, extending 15 km into shallow Lake Erie, you will find Point Pelee National Park. A wheelchair accessible shuttle can take you to the very tip of Point Pelee so that everyone can say that they have been to the southernmost point in Canada! The park is full of long, sandy beaches, extensive boardwalks, and huge flocks of migratory birds. This destination is a birder’s paradise, with over 370 species of birds, and is considered to be the most ecologically diverse national park in Canada. The spring brings a symphony of songbirds, while the fall brings the impressive, predatory raptors. Make sure you take a trip to Point Pelee in the spring for their festival of birds! Not interested in birds? This is also a popular stop-over site for Monarch butterflies which show up in the masses from lake August to mid-October. Point Pelee is also a designated dark sky reserve, making it an ideal stargazing destination — take a tour of the sky with the Royal Astronomical Society. Here you will also find glamping opportunities, groomed trails for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing, as well as marshlands popular for canoeing and kayaking. Hike or cycle through the Carolinian forests and take a guided tour along the boardwalks. You can even participate in guided freighter canoe tours along the longest, continuous natural beach in the region. Trust us — a trip to Point Pelee National Park will be one for the books!
