Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve

Point of Interest

Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve is a spectacular getaway in Southern Ontario. With so much light pollution from the bustling cities, it is difficult to see the starry sky. There are currently only six dark sky preserves in the province, and only 19 in Canada. Torrance Barrens is located only 2 hours from Toronto, within the Muskoka region, and is one of the only spots to properly stargaze in the region.

This natural getaway spans an impressive 5,000 acres and boasts plenty of beautiful scenery to explore, both at night and during the day. Lush forests, marshlands, and accessible boardwalks create a picturesque hiking destination. The park is also home to Ontario's only lizard, the Five Lined Skink.

If you do visit at night, bring your camera and telescope if you have one. You will be able to view the Milky Way, Andromeda Galaxy, and even the Northern Lights (on occasion).
