Since Summer of 2006, I have worked with the Friends of the Grand River Club to increase quality of Grand and Conestogo Rivers in S. Ontario. Have done road/bridge clean-ups by access spots, stocked thousands of brown trout, and planted hundreds of riparian shore trees.
By providing a healthy water environment for the trout, people in the area have greater appreciation for the health of the rivers and will try to take better care of the water. Informing the farmers along the rivers means better use of pesticides, herbicides and control of runoff from the fields.
Trout thriving in the Grand and Conestogo Rivers indicates a healthy environment for ALL wildlife in the area. Also, as a fly fisherman, enjoy the sport more when one has contributed to increasing the health of the rivers.
