Schlitz Adubon

Located on the Northern end of the Milwaukee metropolitan area in the village of Bayside, The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center provides beautiful panoramas of Lake Michigan, as well as so much more. Birding opportunities and a 6 mile footpath and trail network afford visitors a great opportunity to connect with various habitats seen here in SE Wisconsin. During your visit be sure to stop into the nature center and check out the center’s resident turtle.

The Nature preserve was once owned by the famed Schlitz Brewery and was used to rest and feed the brewery’s draft horses that were used to pull beer delivery wagons. The advent of the automobile rendered the use of horse drawn carriages to deliver beer obsolete. A community effort led by local women in the 1960s worked to ensure the land ended up being used for the public’s benefit. It was donated to the National Audubon Society in 1971.

Although the beach is NOT open for swimming, the views and interesting trails down to the lakeshore make visiting this beach worth the trip.

The park is open 8 am-5:30 pm Daily

No dogs are allowed in the nature preserve

Entrance Fee- $8 for adults, and $5 for kids under 18. Current and former military members also receive a discounted admission fee ($5)

Restrooms, information and drinking water are available in the nature center building
