Backus Heritage Conservation Area is a must-see for history buffs and nature enthusiasts alike. Take a step back in time and explore life in rural Ontario in the early 19th century. There are 15 historic buildings and a local history museum. The conservation area even hosts an annual reenactment of the War of 1812 in autumn! Here, you will also find stunning nature hikes, amazing fishing opportunities, and picturesque camping and picnicking spots. There is a Mill pond filled with rainbow trout that is used for the Kids, Cops, and Canadian Tire Fishing Derby each summer. At Backus Heritage Conservation Area you will also find a conservation education centre where you can learn about the local biodiversity!
