Backus Heritage Conservation Area is a must-see for history buffs and nature enthusiasts alike. Take a step back in time and explore life in rural Ontario in the early 19th century. There are 15 historic buildings and a local history museum. The conservation area even hosts an annual reenactment of the War of 1812 in autumn! There is a Mill pond filled with rainbow trout that is used for the Kids, Cops, and Canadian Tire Fishing Derby each summer. At Backus Heritage Conservation Area you will also find a conservation education centre where you can learn about the local biodiversity!
