The Makobe River is a typical Canadian Shield river, cutting through the shield bedrock to create a series of narrow, spectacular canyons. If you want to fully experience the power of this place, a summer paddling trip will bring you up close and personal with these narrow canyons. For more adventurous and experienced paddlers, the high waters in the spring and early summer will take you past numerous rapids, offering a short, but challenging trip. The Makobe-Grays River Provincial Park helps to protect this stunning river landscape and the nearby forest, where many species of birds live and nest. During the spring and early summer months, several species of warbler, thrush, woodpecker, and flycatcher can be heard and seen hopping from tree to three. Up over head you might spot some birds of prey, like Eagles and Osprey, hunting above the forest trees. You can also enjoy winter activities in this park. Please contact the park for more details.
