Obabika River Provincial Park

Park

Human history in Obabika Provincial Park can be traced back over 6000 years by way of archaeological sites, illustrating the area’s rich Aboriginal heritage. Much of the park has significant spiritual relevance. This park is part of the Temagami’s 2400km network of watercourses and portage spots that links it with other parks, conservation areas, and Crown land. The Obabika River is outstanding, with its long meandering sections through clay and sand ravines, broken up by sections of eroded bedrock and marshes. This Provincial Park provides protection for the entire length of the river, making it a vital part of Ontario’s landscape. As you paddle through this park, you will find yourself in an incredibly diverse landscape with island dotted lakes, rocky sheer cliffs, and vast wetland habitats. On land, you will trek through another park highlight: the Obakiba old growth forest. Possibly the largest in ontario, this forest contains a huge stand of ageless pines untouched by logging. You might also come across relics of the horse logging days and old lumber camps along many of the park’s lakes. This park is most definitely worth a trip! You can also enjoy winter activities in this park. Please contact the park for more details.
