Did you know that kayaking has now become more popular than canoeing, outnumbering canoes on nearly every waterway worldwide? Like canoeing, the sport is renowned for its meditative qualities, while also being a thrilling form of exercise. Kayaks allow you to explore the Great Lakes from a unique perspective. Explore Lake Huron’s extensive island system, Lake Erie’s shallow, warm sandy waters, or Lake Ontario’s vast cityscapes. There are a wide variety of routes that you can take, ranging from flat, calm inlets, to raging white-water adventures!

Last October, I went on my first kayaking trip. I decided to explore the Rideau Canal. It's a place that combines the beauty of a natural body of water with the history of the people living around it.

During that trip, I drank and cooked with the water from the river, which made me think, "What are we putting into our natural waterways?"
