Durham East Cross Forest

Park

Located in Scugog Township, Ontario, Durham East Cross Forest is a vast 1,334 acre conservation area protecting an ecologically sensitive area of Oak Ridges Moraine. The park includes the headwaters of both Pigeon River and East Cross Creek, alongside forests of sugar maple and pine, open meadow, sand barrens, and prairie remnants. The region is a popular spot for hiking, birdwatching, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing in the winter. There are over 7 km of pristine trails that wind their way through the forests and past many unique bird species including the Canada Warbler, Northern Flicker, and the Savannah Sparrow. Some of the trails are also open to Snowmobiles, so visitors can zoom through the park as it is transformed into a winter wonderland.
