Simmons Island

Beach

Simmons Island is a peninsula located just a few blocks from downtown Kenosha. The area has served as a public space for the city for many years and boasts a Works Progress Administration (WPA) built bathhouse from the 1930s (now restrooms), and a lighthouse constructed by the U.S. Government in 1848. Tours of the lighthouse are available through the Kenosha History center for a suggested donation. Contact the Kenosha History Center at (262) 654-5770 for more information.

The beach on Simmons Island is the biggest and most popular beach in the area. Ample access to parking, restrooms and the bars and restaurants of downtown Kenosha makes this beach an easy choice for those looking for a fun place to spend a whole day with minimal planning needed. The sandy and relatively wide beach has great views of the lake, plenty of room to spread out.
The beach is wheelchair accessible thanks to a rollout “mobility mat” that allows individuals who use wheelchairs the ability to enjoy the area.
